ABOUT THE RAMP
The KBRS Ramp is a tileable wet area substrate used to construct an easy transition between the bathroom floor and a shower pan. The KBRS Ramp is lightweight, yet will provide the superior strength and durability necessary for easy barrier-free shower access. The KBRS Ramp is easily installed using modified thin-set.
Once installed, just add your waterproofing, thin-set and decorative tile. The core material of the KBRS Ramp is the 3 lb. High Density EPS (expanded polystyrene).
The Ramp is covered on both sides with a fiber mesh and epoxy. The KBRS Ramp has a 6" run, comes 61" in length and has a 1/4" nominal front edge.
HIGH QUALITY SHOWER RAMP
The quality of every shower ramp from KBRS goes beyond durable materials and state-of-the-art construction. It is also easy to install. The KBRS Ramp is available in a 61” and 49" length, and can be purchased at any custom desired specifications attached to any ShowerSlope™, as well as purchased separate at 61” length to be cut-to-fit in the field.
• Interior or Exterior
• Industrial, Commercial and Residential
SUITABLE TILE TYPES:
• Vitreous, Semi-vitreous or Non-vitreous Tiles, Quarry, Cement Body Tile
• Impervious Porcelain
• Gauged or Ungauged Natural Stone Tile
• Pebbled Tile
• No Minimum Tile Size
Any substrate that you would normally build a tile shower on that is level such as: concrete, an approved plywood surface, etc. Deflection of substrate not to exceed 1/360th of the span 1/2 inch (12 mm) in 15 feet (4.6m) in accordance with ANSI A108.01-2.3.
The KBRS Ramp is a one piece factory sloped component that creates a barrier-free entry to a tile shower pan. The KBRS Ramp can be cut-to-fit in the field if required. The Ramp is lightweight yet durable enough to resist damage caused by normal construction activity. The Ramp is quick and easy to install using standard modified thin-set. The Ramp substantially reduces the time and skill level required to build a code compliant tile shower pan. The non-porous epoxy skins provide a durable layer of protection for the waterproofing membrane and tile assembly. A KBRS Ramp is dimensionally stable and isolates the tile from differential movement stresses within the sub-floor.
Why Choose KBRS Ramp?
- Fast & Easy Installation
- Lightweight Design
- Cut to Fit in the Field
- Waterproof in the Field
- Design Flexibility
Dry fit KBRS Ramp to ensure proper size (cut-to-fit, if required). Using a 3/4” U-notched trowel, apply an approved thin-set to substrate as if laying a tile. Lay KBRS Ramp in place and firmly embed into thin-set. Apply approved ShowerSeal® Polyurethane Sealant (or equal) to all gaps and joints. Apply waterproofing membrane as required.
DRY FIT the ramp - then mark area around ramp that will need to be troweled with thin-set.
(Note: ramps can be cut-to-fit with a saw)
Trowel the marked area where the ramp will be put into place.
Apply a generous bead of polyurethane sealant to the outter edge of the slope where the ramp will "butt up" against it.
Butter the bottom of the ramp with thin-set and firmly press it into place up against the slope. Distribute weight on top of the ramp to ensure it is fully embedded into the thin-set. Follow waterproofing instructions to complete your shower installation. Once cured, apply tile as desired.
+ Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS THE KBRS KBRS RAMP MADE OF?
The KBRS Ramp is manufactured under strict ICC-ES quality-control conditions. The core material of the KBRS Ramp is UL® Certified EPS (expanded polystyrene) geofoam (Type XV-EPS 60). The geofoam core is sandwiched between layers of epoxy infused E-Glass and fiberglass mesh. The E-Glass provides strength, and the mesh provides an increase in the bonding surface-area and bond coat stabilization. The KBRS Ramp has a 1/4” leading edge and a 6” RUN to a 1-1/2” trailing edge. The average compression strength is 118 psi per ASTM D1621.
IS THE SHOWER RAMP EASY TO INSTALL?
Yes, the shower ramp can be installed easily by following a few simple steps.
CAN I CUT THE RAMP?
Yes! The KBRS shower ramp can be cut-to-fit on site to easily adjust as needed for your shower.
CAN I INSTALL THE RAMP WITH A MUD PAN?
Yes, the KBRS ramp can be used in a mud bed installation or with our KBRS ShowerSlope™ shower pan.
DO THE TILE-BASIN® SHOWER BASE PRODUCTS HAVE A RAMP ATTACHED?
Our standard Tile-Basin® products come with a standard curb attached, but you can order a custom Tile-Basin® with a ramp attachment. You can also attach a ramp to a linear Tile-Basin® shower base product. View the link below to access our custom library of order forms.

CAN I PURCHASE A RAMP WITH A SHOWERSLOPE™?
Absolutely! You can either order a ShowerSlope™ and a ramp as two items, or you can order a shower ramp on its own. Our tile shower kits include a presloped adjustable shower pan, HardCurb® shower curb, waterproofing products and a drain.

WHAT KIND OF THIN-SET SHOULD I USE?
Any quality "polymer modified" thin-set will do just fine. Do not use a premixed thin-set (i.e.... water already added). A premixed thin-set that comes in a bucket with water already added will not cure properly. Remember: No premix! Always add your own water! Different terms for modified thin-set include: modified thin-set, modified thin set with a latex additive, fortified thin-set, polymer modified thin-set, polymer fortified blended thin-set. The thin-set must meet or exceed ANSI A118.4 and ANSI Al18.11 requirements when mixed with water.
Three of the most recognized brands:
1. Custom Building Products: usually found at The Home Depot. (Product Names: Versa Bond, Fortified, FlexBond Fortified and their elastic membrane is called RedGard)
2. Laticrete: usually found at The Home Depot, Lowe's and other tile suppliers. (Product Names: Laticrete 254 Platinum and their elastic membrane is called Hydro Ban).
3. Mapei: usually found at The Home Depot, Lowe's, Daltile and other tile suppliers (Name of product: Ultra Flex 2 and their elastic membrane is called Aqua Defense)
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TILE-BASIN™ AND A SHOWERSLOPE™?
The ShowerSlope™ is identical to the Tile-Basin® with two exceptions. The ShowerSlope™ DOES NOT come factory prepped with an elastomeric waterproofing membrane coating, or with factory installed perimeter components (i.e. flange or curb). This allows the ShowerSlope™ to be "cut-to-fit" in the field. An elastomeric waterproofing membrane must be properly applied to surfaces of the ShowerSlope™ and to the seams where the ShowerSlope™ and the tile backer board meet.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MANUFACTURE A CUSTOM SHOWER PAN?
Our average lead-time is 7-10 business days (Mon-Fri). This could slightly vary due to certain manufacturing conditions, in which if this becomes an issue you will be contacted and notified by a KBRS, Inc. representative.
DO YOU HAVE CUSTOM RAMP ATTACHMENTS?
Yes! We can custom manufacture a ramp attached to a Tile-Basin®. We can also add a radius on a custom ramp per your specifications, or you can order a shower ramp separate to install with your shower pan. The KBRS ramp can be cut-to-fit on site using the same tools as you would to cut a KBRS shower curb.

HOW CAN I ENSURE THAT THE RAMP IS COMPLETELY EMBEDDED IN THE THIN-SET AFTER I SET IT IN PLACE?
Typically, professional installers use boxes of tile or buckets of water to supply a uniform weight to the shower base and ramp or curb threshold until the thin-set is cured. Following this procedure will result in a "rock-solid" installation. Also, be sure to securely tighten the shower drain's "clamping ring" to the drain body in the sub-floor as recommended in the installation instructions.
I AM INSTALLING ON A WOOD SUBFLOOR, CAN I APPLY THIN-SET DIRECTLY TO THE SUBFLOOR?
If your sub-floor is structurally sound (no rotting...etc.) and level (very important), then applying thin-set directly to the sub-floor is okay. However, we do not recommend applying thin-set directly to particleboard.
